Fulfillment of dangerous goods
Rhiem ships the smart luggage from Horizn Studios – and pays particular attention to safety: because of the enclosed powerbanks with lithium batteries, there are a few things to consider when transporting the high-tech cases.
Smart travel no longer just means booking online or via an app. The digital nomad has recently started packing a smart suitcase or high-tech bag. Horizn Studios made a name for itself as one of the first providers of innovative luggage, and now the Berlin start-up is cooperating with the e-commerce service provider RHIEM from Voerde. “Special care and experience is required when storing and transporting our innovative high-tech and designer luggage,” says Jan Roosen, Co-Founder & Managing Partner. “We chose RHIEM because we were looking for a fulfillment partner who could competently translate our high quality standards into logistics and shipping processes.”
Packaging, knowledge, rules
The smart cases from Horizn Studios are considered dangerous goods when transported by ground or air by parcel service or freight forwarder. This is because they contain a power bank that supplies smartphones or tablets with energy via a USB cable, for example when there is a long wait and emails need to be checked or documents edited. “Lithium batteries can catch fire, so they must be safely packaged, labeled and delivered using approved means of transport,” explains Dr. Peter Lorenzi, Managing Director of RHIEM-Services GmbH in Voerde. “Our strength lies in the professional handling of demanding products and advising our customers in this regard is naturally part of our service. The qualifications of our employees play a central role in this. In the case of lithium-ion batteries, this includes training employees in accordance with the IATA Dangerous Goods Regulation (DGR).”
As Horizn Studios’ fulfillment partner, the e-commerce service provider not only ships to end consumers who order their smart design luggage directly online from the startup, but also to specialist retailers and the Berlin-based company’s corporate customers.
Travelers and digital nomads can of course be given the all-clear: As hand luggage, the smart suitcases and bags are of course safe and welcome on airlines worldwide. If they are checked in for flights, the power bank simply travels in your hand luggage. This is where Horizn Studios products stand out from the competition thanks to the practical removal option for the power bank. And when traveling on buses or trains, the Berliners’ luggage travels without restrictions anyway: elegant, smart, safe.
