RHIEM Druck develops and produces the stylish folding box for Dragon’s Cut: a special gin that is strictly limited by the Mainz-based start-up A Dragon, A Witch & Me.
Matured for 16 months in orange liqueur barrels, distilled and distilled with love and taste: The Dragon’s Cut gin from the start-up A Dragon, A Witch & Me is something special – and is therefore packaged in a particularly stylish way: the RHIEM Group from Voerde is responsible for the matt, shiny, gray, puristically designed carton that elegantly wraps the half-litre bottle. “RHIEM has designed packaging for us that cleverly emphasizes the edition character of the Muscatel Distilled Gin Dragon’s Cut and sets an eye-catching accent with its purist print,” says Pascal Hedrich, co-founder of A DRAGON, A WITCH & ME from Mainz. “RHIEM’s knowledge of printing technology, packaging design, but also the company’s experience with online shipping and fulfillment helped us a lot.”
Surprisingly attractive
The Dragon’s Cut is sold by hand-picked speakeasies, spirits connoisseurs and online stores. There, the partly matt, partly shiny, light-colored box is very striking: In contrast to those of competitors, it is minimally printed with clear lettering and simply tells the story of the new gin and its name. The cutting-edge label look is skillfully implemented.
Once opened, the box reveals its surprising inner life. The inside of the cardboard box, which is also remarkable to the touch, bears the finely chiseled trademark of A DRAGON, A WITCH & ME. “In the age of e-commerce, packaging should no longer just be attractive, stand out and convey a brand image, but also make opening it an experience. Discerning customers want to be amazed and surprised,” says Ulrich Treiber, Managing Director of RHIEM Druck. “This increases the value of the product and ultimately also customer loyalty.”
Spirits trend market
The Dragon’s Cut contains a higher proportion of wine and juniper, matured for a year in orange liqueur barrels and is also limited. Only 550 liters of the so-called “Muscatel Distilled” gin were bottled in 1100 bottles. The special features of the product are reflected in the packaging materials: the box for the Dragon’s Cut is made of bright white chromo sulphate cardboard and printed with matt and gloss effects. The automatic base makes packaging easier and allows the narrow box to be unfolded with just one hand: “The material allows high-quality printing processes at a low price – so it is suitable for high design requirements at low cost,” Treiber continues. “RHIEM organizes fulfilment and shipping for online stores and multichannel retailers – the experience our employees have gained in pick & pack has naturally also enriched RHIEM’s packaging design in recent years.” RHIEM designs packaging that proves its worth in multichannel retailing.
According to the Federal Association of the German Spirits Industry and Importers (BSI), craft beer from small, innovative brewers is now being followed by whiskey, vodka and, above all, gin as cult drinks. Their consumption is increasing, and of the approximately 490 million liters of spirituous beverages consumed in Germany each year, the majority – around 375 million liters – are distilled here.
