Ein Mitarbeiter von RHIEM verpackt eine Bestellung

The second part of our RHIEM series “How does…?” focuses on the pick and pack process in B2C fulfillment. We give you an insight into the process from picking the products to the finished package.

The company Eventus GmbH (fictitious company), based in Bavaria, is a customer of RHIEM Services and sells products in the cosmetics industry in the B2C and B2B sectors. It uses its own online store and various online marketplaces as well as distribution channels via a drugstore chain. It has a portfolio with 140 different article numbers, which are delivered worldwide. In order to focus on its core competencies, the company has outsourced its entire logistics and placed it in the hands of logistics experts . The integration of the customer and the system-side ERP connection were successfully completed by the project management team and all necessary processes were individually defined. In this RHIEM series, we show you which services are provided for the company by RHIEM Services and which processes are behind them.

We have also recorded the entire process in the form of a video:

Receipt of an order

A customer of Eventus GmbH orders three products via the company’s own online store. About the interface connection between the online store of Eventus GmbH and the ERP system of RHIEM Services GmbH, the logistics (B2C shipping area) receives the order.

Picking the products of the order

The order is transmitted to a logistics employee using an MDE device. As all products in our warehouses move exclusively via load carriers, he/she scans one of these and receives the storage locations where the products can be found. At the storage location, the products are removed in the appropriate quantity, the label of the storage location is scanned, the quantities removed are confirmed and the products are placed on a picking trolley.

Packing the products

The logistics specialist returns to the Eventus GmbH packing line with the retrieved goods and packs the products in a suitable box. At the same time, it scans the picked products to ensure that the products actually ordered are dispatched. As requested by Eventus GmbH, additional filling material, the delivery bill and a flyer are inserted into the parcel before it is sealed using environmentally friendly packing tape. The process can be individualized according to customer requirements, e.g. tissue paper in the parcel to enhance the unpacking experience.

Shipping preparation

The fully packed parcel is placed on a roller conveyor system next to the packing table so that it passes automatically to the outgoing goods area. There, the parcel is placed on a pallet, which is handed over to the shipping service provider in the evening.

Further control instances take place here. The parcel is scanned when it arrives on the pallet to prove that the parcel has landed on the pallet. Once the pallet is packed, it is wrapped and a pallet label is created. The label is scanned again to prove that the pallet is closed. The shipping service provider then collects the pallet in the evening, again confirmed by a scan. This makes it easy to track where the parcel is currently located. The respective process steps are visible in the customer portal. Early shipment notifications, e.g. that the goods have been electronically announced to DHL for hours, are therefore excluded.
