The third part of our RHIEM series “How does… actually work?” – similar to the second part of this series – is about the pick and pack process, but in this case in B2B. We give you an insight into the process from picking the products to the finished package from the perspective of the fulfillment service provider.

The company Eventus GmbH (fictitious company), based in Bavaria, is a customer of RHIEM Services and sells products in the cosmetics industry in the B2C and B2B sectors. It uses its own online store and various online marketplaces as well as distribution channels via a drugstore chain. It has a portfolio with 140 different article numbers, which are delivered worldwide. In order to focus on its core competencies, the company has outsourced its entire logistics and placed it in the hands of logistics experts . The integration of the customer as well as the system-side ERP connection was successfully completed by the project management and all necessary processes were individually defined. In this RHIEM series, we show you which services are provided for the company by RHIEM Services and which processes are behind them.

Receipt of an order

The branch of a drugstore chain orders 37 products to replenish its stock, some of which are to be delivered by parcel and some by pallet. Logistics (B2B shipping) receives the order via the interface connection between the ERP system of Eventus GmbH and the ERP system of RHIEM Services GmbH.

Picking the products of the order

The order is transmitted to a logistics employee using an MDE device. As all products in our warehouses move exclusively via load carriers, he/she scans one of these and receives the storage locations where the products can be found. At the storage location, the products are removed in the corresponding quantity, the label of the storage location is scanned and the quantities removed are confirmed. As larger quantities are often involved in the B2B sector, the goods are increasingly retrieved by forklift truck

Packing the products

The outsourced goods are efficiently packed in the B2B shipping area, which is significantly larger than a B2C packing line. Depending on the quantity ordered, the products are either packed exclusively in appropriate cardboard packaging or additionally assembled on Euro pallets. If complete Euro pallets have been removed from storage, they are not changed. The Euro pallets are prepared and labeled for safe transportation.

Shipping preparation

The Euro pallets prepared for shipping are made available in the shipping area in the corresponding carrier zone.
